This Sunday, Lord willing, Bryan will be preaching on the believer’s devotional life from Psalm chapter one:
How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so,
But they are like chaff which the wind drives away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
For the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the wicked will perish.
May we all have prepared hearts that will readily receive the preached word with gratitude and Spirit-wrought obedience!
I would guess that many of you have committed portions of this great passage to memory. I’ll never forget when my girlfriend’s dad (who is now my father-in-law) challenged me to memorize this chapter when I was in eleventh grade. For fear of a forced breakup, I didn’t want to disclose my thoughts, “An entire chapter?” “Of the Bible?” I thought it was impossible. Thankfully, it wasn’t! And these six verses of Psalm one have proven to be a weapon in the Spirit’s hand ever since to rouse my heart to seeking God through His Word. We would love to hear what some of the passages are that the Lord has used to jump-start your life of devotion to Him through the Word?

Another special treat
this Sunday at Grace Church is our joyous privilege of being led in song by Ron Man. Ron is being used by God around the world to teach seminary students and worship pastors what the Bible portrays about the Christology of true worship. His website’s description reads, “[We exist] to strengthen the body of Christ in the U.S., Europe and beyond by promoting the priority, understanding and practice of God-centered, Christ-exalting worship.” Ron is pictured to the right teaching a seminar at the Calvin Symposium, and the other picture is of the entire group worshiping together at the Symposium. After the service, Ron will be gathering for lunch with the GC worship team for an informal time of discussion and teaching.
Look forward to worshiping Christ with you this Sunday! jt
