Worship Preparation :: Mark 7:1-23

Suggestions to fatten your soul in preparation for Sunday…

(First, check the previous post for a practical way to prepare for Sunday by bringing stuff for Nigeria!!).

  1. Pray through the sermon text.
  2. Carefully consider the desperate condition of the heart of man apart from Christ’s saving grace. Notice how the deceived heart will twist God’s Words for selfish gain.
  3. Contemplate the track-record of your own life; carefully considering how you have responded to godly criticism. Pride is a devilish sin, and does not take well to critique. Humility is a Christlike quality, and welcomes the wounding of our pride.
  4. (Updated in the hope of clarifying) When it comes to weighing your perceptions of life’s greatest challenges, do your perceptions line up with Christ’s teaching? Have you concluded that your greatest enemy is within, or without?
  5. Sing several Christ-exalting hymns. Here’s a couple we’re planning to sing this week at Grace.

O Worship the King

O worship the King, all glorious above,
O gratefully sing His power and His love;
Our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days,
Pavilioned in splendor, and girded with praise.

O tell of His might, O sing of His grace,
Whose robe is the light, whose canopy space,
His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form,
And dark is His path on the wings of the storm.

The earth with its store of wonders untold,
Almighty, Thy power hath founded of old;
Established it fast by a changeless decree,
And round it hath cast, like a mantle, the sea.

Thy bountiful care, what tongue can recite?
It breathes in the air, it shines in the light;
It streams from the hills, it descends to the plain,
And sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.

Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,
In Thee do we trust, nor find Thee to fail;
Thy mercies how tender, how firm to the end,
Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend.

O measureless might! Ineffable love!
While angels delight to worship Thee above,
The humbler creation, though feeble their lays,
With true adoration shall all sing Thy praise.

O The Deep Deep Love of Jesus

Oh the deep, deep love of Jesus
Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free
Rolling as a mighty ocean
In its fullness over me
Underneath me, all around me
Is the current of Your love
Leading onward, leading homeward
To Your glorious rest above

Chorus
Oh the deep, deep love
All I need and trust
Is the deep, deep love of Jesus

Oh the deep, deep love of Jesus
Spread His praise from shore to shore
How He came to pay our ransom
Through the saving cross He bore
How He watches o’er His loved ones
Those He died to make His own
How for them He’s interceding
Pleading now before the throne

Oh the deep, deep love of Jesus
Far surpassing all the rest
It’s an ocean full of blessing
In the midst of every test
Oh the deep, deep love of Jesus
Mighty Savior, precious Friend
You will bring us home to glory
Where Your love will never end.
